Best Thanksgiving Side Dish

While we all can appreciate the hard work and time it goes into making a perfectly roasted and juicy turkey, it's really the array of side dishes that compliment this masterpiece bird. Can you imagine Thanksgiving without those tasty sides? I don't even want to think about it!  Below is one of my favourite side dishes and is perfect for this time of year. So get your sweatpants ready and gobble gobble!



  • 2 medium butternut squash 
  • 6 tablespoons of melted unsalted butter 
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon (if you wish to use instead of rosemary and thyme, see last step for more details) 


  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees 
  2. Chop the butternut squash lengthwise in half and remove all the seeds
  3. Peel the squash
  4. Chop the squash into 1 1/2 cubes and place them in a large bowl
  5. In a large bowl, combine the squash with the melted butter, brown sugar, salt and pepper
  6. Once the squash is evenly coated, spread in a single layer on a baking sheet with parchment paper
  7. Roast for 55-60 minutes until the squash is tender and the glaze is caramelized 
  8. Make sure to turn the squash at some points within the cooking time to ensure it browns evenly
  9. Sprinkle with rosemary and thyme (or cinnamon instead) before serving
